LED’S celebrate our green deal

When we founded WAVELABS back in 2011, we dreamed of pushing the development of the photovoltaic industry with our technical innovations. At that time, we put all our knowledge and motivation into the development of our first solar simulator, the SINUS-220. That first sale of a single tool in 2013 was monumental for us! Today we are pleased to announce that we have won a 10 GW tender in China. For comparison: The famous Hoover Dam, almost 45 kilometers [...]

LED’s start a revolution

Only five years after the first WAVELABS SINUS-220 LED flasher was delivered to Hanwha Q CELLS in Germany, the growing LED movement in the PV industry is celebrating its next highlight with state-of-the-art solar simulators from WAVELABS. Risen Energy is leading the charge with using only LED-based solar simulators in their newest factory in Changzhou (Jiangsu Province in China). This is probably the first PV factory in the world to work exclusively with LED-based solar simulators. 26 WAVELABS tools are working [...]

IEA’s World Energy Outlook for PV. Spectacular but Conservative?

The international energy agency (IEA) has recently published its World Energy Outlook (WEO) for 2018, with PV expecting to have a run rate between 90-110 GW added per year from now till 2040.  If that were to happen, it would mean a whopping 2200 GW in solar capacity added between now and then. However, since past is often prologue, we will not be surprised if solar does it yet again, and exceeds even this optimistic expectation to the upside! WAVELABS is truly [...]

SINUS-70 now at MIT’s ONE Lab

WAVELABS is proud to announce that ONE Lab at MIT is now another user of our SINUS-70 system.  The small area (5cm x 5cm) solar simulator is powered by 21 channels of LEDs, allowing it the flexibility and long exposure times that ONE Lab requires.  An in-built spectrometer ensures stability and a class A+++ spectrum is always achieved, just like with the SINUS-220 cell flasher used in cell fab lines globally. “We are very excited about the tool and its capabilities, and the team is looking forward to working with [...]

And Then There Were Two in SERIS!

The Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) has recently purchased and commissioned their second SINUS-220 LED solar simulator. Solar cell IV measurements with the first tool has been a hit at the Singaporean lab since early 2014. The second tool will bolster the IV cell testing capabilities (Busbarless, Multi Busbars) and double capacity of the popular WAVELABS solar simulators at SERIS. Check out this recent video showcasing the latest and greatest at SERIS in Singapore. WAVELABS’ SINUS-220 enters the scene [...]

How important is as-grown silicon material quality on solar cell efficiency? LEDs ask Dr Bernhard Mitchell

Dr Bernhard Mitchell, a semiconductor physicist and an expert in the solar PV sector has recently authored an interesting paper answering this question.  Find out how PL imaging can be used to improve photovoltaic silicon, tighten production variance and increase solar cell efficiency. Read the paper in full here. Bernhard works in R&D with WAVELABS Solar Metrology Systems GmbH in Germany and is acting Sales Manager for BTimaging in Europe. WAVELABS is BT Imaging’s sales and service partner in [...]

Next Gen Module Solar Simulator Now at Fraunhofer CSP

Fraunhofer CSP has another shiny new flasher from WAVELABS in its metrology lab, and it comes powered by 18 LED channels, housed by 60 light engines perfectly engineered and meticulously flashing onto a 2m x 1m surface.  The engineers at WAVELABS have done it again with the nearly 3m tall and 6m wide SINUS-2100p.  A class A+++ spectrum with flash times up to continuous light sets a new standard for module flashers in the solar industry.  Wondering what your solar [...]
