Leipzig, Germany, May 6, 2025 – WAVELABS, the award-winning German developer and manufacturer of LED-based solar metrology systems, is expanding its product portfolio with the launch of the new mini-module tester SINUS-1000 ADVANCED. This solar simulator goes beyond traditional photovoltaic research—it is a dedicated solution for R&D departments at module manufacturers seeking to scale up not only wafer-based, but also thin-film technologies, especially perovskites. The SINUS-1000 ADVANCED will debut at Intersolar Europe in Munich from May 7–9, 2025. At WAVELABS’ booth A2.420, visitors will also get a preview of further product launches the Leipzig-based tech company is preparing for research purposes later this year.
The SINUS-1000 ADVANCED enables rigorous mini-module testing, addressing key challenges in cell-to-module integration and the transition to pilot production. “With the rapid advancements in perovskite technology, the industry needs reliable tools to bridge the gap between lab-scale cell research and large-scale production,” says Franziska Wallwiener, Project Manager for Module Fabrication Testing at WAVELABS. “The SINUS-1000 ADVANCED is purpose-built to deliver precise characterization and support the upscaling of next-generation PV technologies.”
Product highlights of the SINUS-1000 ADVANCED include:
- The LED Advantage: Based on WAVELABS’ award-winning LED technology, featuring a 500 mm x 500 mm irradiated area with A+ classified homogeneity for mini-modules.
- Rapid All-in-One Characterization: IV measurement, External Quantum Efficiency, (Tandem) Electroluminescence, and Infrared imaging—all in a compact footprint.
- Tandem Ready: Automatic spectral calibration for sub-cells enables current mismatch tuning and Maximum Power Point (MPP) tracking, with a wide range of exposure durations, including continuous illumination.
- Full Spectral Control: Integrated spectrometer and intensity sensor with an automated feedback loop for long-term spectral stability.
- Advanced Temperature Control & Secure Handling: A purpose-built, fully software integrated, Peltier-based temperature stage provides precise thermal management, while an efficient vacuum suction system ensures safe handling of solar devices.
- Power Rating: Supports determination of module power over a range of irradiances and temperatures as per IEC 61853-1.
With the expanded portfolio, Carsten W. Hense, CEO of WAVELABS, sees the company well-positioned for the future: “The launch of the SINUS-1000 ADVANCED further solidifies our dedication to driving innovation in solar characterization technology,” says Hense. “By aligning cutting-edge research with real-world application, we’re enabling our customers to fast-track the development and market readiness of next-generation PV solutions.”
