How it works:
Light with a short wavelength (blue light) is easily absorbed by silicon near the front surface
Silicon is a weak absorber of light with a long wavelength (red light), which is thereforeabsorbed throughout the whole silicon wafer
The “blue efficiency” and the “red efficiency” depend on different mechanisms:
The blue efficiency depends on the front contact with, for instance, the emitter, which is generated by phosphorous in-diffusion
The wafer quality and the back contact affect the red efficiency
Suitable for single-junction solar cells
